Shostakovich and Weinberg in Seville and Madrid with the Signum Quartett
Within the programme of the Contemporary Music Cycle(s) of Seville and the Chamber Music Lyceum of the National Auditorium of Madrid the Spanish pianist and the German Signum Quarttet will, on the 3rd and 4th of April, offer a concert that revolves around the figures of Shostakovich and Weinberg.
The programme will begin with a piano solo by Judith, the Preludes op.2 of Dmitri Shostakovich. Subsequently the Signum Quarttet will play the String Quartet no. 9 in E flat major by the same composer and then the concert will reach its peak with the joint performance of the Piano Quintet op.18 by Weinberg. In this way, the two composers who had a great friendship but different luck will be brought together; whilst Shostakovich reached high degrees of popularity and success, Weinberg did not enjoy this recognition and his music has been practically forgotten.
This is Judith Jauregui’s second collaboration with the Signum Quarttet, and follows the concert they gave together on November 7th last year at the Auditorio Príncipe Felipe in Oviedo (Spain) within the Luis G. Iberni Piano Days in which their surprising degree of rapport and the excellent connection between them was praised by critics, such as Joaquín Valdeón from the daily La Nueva España for whom "Jáuregui possesses a lyricism of beautiful quality and warmth and the Signum Quarttet exhibited an exemplary sonority”.
